The title is a line from an Elizabeth Strout book called ‘Oh William!’. We’re all perfect and broken and we all have these stories beneath us and between us. We build lives upon lives and we leave things unsaid.
USA-style individualism and belief in meritocracy is flawed and harmful. That kind of thinking leads to selfishness, discrimination and indifference to the less fortunate.
Everyone works hard but only some people get lucky. Once we accept that, we can work with each other for good.
